Blades of Glory skated to the top of the weekend box office chart, after taking in approximately $33 million in its first three days of release. The Will Ferrell/Jon Heder skating comedy met pre-release estimates, and took in an impressive $9,786 per screen, the best average for any film showing on more than 1,000 screens this weekend.
Following in the second position is the Disney animated feature Meet the Robinsons, which took in $25.056 million in its first weekend of release. The film took in an impressive $7,341 per screen this weekend and will likely have a strong run since many school children are on spring break during the next two weeks.
300 continues to perform well in its fourth week of release. The Warner Bros. film took in $11.155 million this weekend, for a four week total of $179.662 million. Another Warner Bros. film, last week’s No. 1, TMNT fell to the No. 4 position this weekend, taking in $9.16 million for a 10-day total of $38.428 million.
Rounding out the top five is Wild Hogs. The Buena Vista film continues to perform well, after garnering $8.389 million. The film has taken in $135.355 million after five weeks.
Opening outside the top 10 this weekend is The Lookout, which took in $2.007 million on 955 screens, landing it at No. 11. Other limited releases opening this weekend include IFC’s After the Wedding, which took in $46,300 on five screens, for a per screen average of $9,260, and Think Films’ Live Free or Die, which captured $10,200 on five screens, for a per screen average of $2,040.
